i did this tonight for a silkscreen refresher class i'm taking tomorrow and next week. (it's been 8 years or so since the one time i did it.) it'll be these colors on a few t-shirts and blue and green on black artagain paper.

i'm having these screenprinted since i don't have time to take a screenprinting refresher class, get a membership to the shop where i'll eventually do it, etcetera etcetera before the risd alumni spring sale. aaaand, the guys i'm using do really excellent work. i rushed through this according to my usual m.o., but i'm fairly pleased with the image. i'm excited to see how they come out.

My first-ever completed tiki mug. The skulls are a satin, melty off-white and green, and the tiki is that deep blue fading into brown that you've probably seen before. Although I'm disappointed in these photos, because they don't do the colors justice, I'm really, really happy with these. There are only four of them. I might manage to pull a few more imperfect casts from the mold (it is deteriorating rapidly), but this was a series done all at once. Holding 5 oz. and at 3.75" tall, I give you...

So there it is, my first finished piece - which is funny considering it's the third mold I made. This one was actually just a very quick experiment with applying Plastilina to a bottle of Patrón. The finished piece shrunk to about 70% of the size of the original bottle. Since I cast it, I've carved into the sides of the mold - so the casts since this one have more intricate designs around the skull and spiral and on the neck of the bottle. Hopefully I'll be getting one of those from the kiln Sunday or Monday PM. Much, much more to come.

Yet another resolution... I'm starting the Jainschigg-patented method today: 30-minute timed drawings, once daily - no excuses, no more or less than 30 minutes, always from either life or a photo, no made-up stuff. And no digital. Eventually it'll be paint, but we'll try this for now. (Eventually I'll figure out how to take a decent photo of art, as well.)

Back in the old ebay days, my paintings never sold for much, so it wasn't worth spending a lot of time on them. I feel like I might be able to do better work with more patience, but I'm not totally unhappy with the sketchier ones. Here are three I'm getting back on ebay with.

They're each about 5x7 on 1.5" thick stretched canvas with 1/4" bamboo lashed into a frame with jute twine.

These are the first paintings I've done in several years as far as I can remember. They're each 6" x 12" acrylic on canvas. I'm not sure whether to leave them as is or do more. I think I'm leaning toward leaving them.
